Our team of former “insiders” helps incarcerated people and their families navigate the nuances of the federal prison system, by defining realistic goals and, if possible, achieving them in a non-adversarial way.
Prior to a forming PERA, Jack Donson and others he recruited helped incarcerated people and their family members navigate the BOP system pro bono. Now, this service is offered through PERA. We are taking requests now but will be limited until funding allows us to expand our case manager staff.
We can likely help you if your loved one in federal prison is experiencing issues such as:
Lengthy SHU stay.
Denial of medical care.
Refusal to correctly apply First Step Act credits.
We know that transfers to other BOP institutions is a common desire. However, while we can discuss these requests with you, you’ll need to keep in mind that the federal Bureau of Prisons has broad discretion in this arena.
We will assign a case manager to work with you and the adult in custody to determine if there is a realistic, achievable solution. If so, we will help you leverage BOP policy and appropriate contacts to bring about your goal. There is a lot of half-truths and misinformation out there, as well as deliberate neglect of BOP policy. We’ll help cut through all that.
Note: PERA focuses on situations in which the BOP is violating its own policies. There currently are no lawyers or investigators on the PERA team, although we hope to add an attorney in the near future. We do not handle pre- or post-sentencing legal challenges or seek publicity for them.
Please complete the form below. Someone will follow up with you within a week, and will walk you through the documents needed, if applicable.
